Knitting and Stitching Show – A Walk on the Wild Side

A collaboration between Ann Small and Sue Walton evoking and recapturing deep seated memories and emotions, inspired from tales and stories from their past – magical, curious and slightly scary.   A real feast of what is inside and artist’s mind.

The fairy-tale tableaux invite you to walk through a well-lit and enchanted woodland and garden, here flowers, fruits and creatures are alive with texture.  In the distance lie glimpses of a darker place where a bizarre array of strange and intriguing forms are displayed.

Within this mysterious space Sue displays a kitchen; or is it a laboratory?  Kitchenalia is filled with kaleidoscopes of coloured flower forms and unexpected concoctions,

Ann presents a village of dwellings, compartments and cages which demand closer inspection.  Collections of found objects are meaningfully reconfigured and riddled with stories of their own to tell.

This current work is a progression from their last collection Jabberwocky.  Both continue with passion to push textile boundaries with the introduction of glass, found objects and quirky themes.
